Counselor Certification Process at TCA

The counselors at Take Charge America receive their certification through The Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE). AFCPE is a non-profit professional organization created to promote the education and training of the professional in financial management.

Take Charge America’s counselors receive certification as Accredited Credit Counselors from AFCPE. Certified individuals must meet education, experience, and ethical requirements.

Our counselors complete two college courses, one on Personal Finance and another on Communication Skills in Counseling to help them gain the knowledge they will need to successfully complete the certification exam given by AFCPE.

Each counselor must pass the certification exam with a 70% proficiency level. In addition, continuing education is required to maintain the certificate.
