Christie Barfoot leads education and training at Take Charge America with a passion for helping individuals improve their financial literacy. She’s instrumental in developing and distributing the educational content that is central to the nonprofit’s mission of serving as an essential lifelong resource.
As the Director of Education and Training, Christie engages in cross-departmental collaboration to consistently improve and adjust Take Charge America’s educational resources in response to evolving consumer needs and priorities. She’s exhibited a commitment to quality, striving to provide the most relevant and beneficial materials and information possible. Christie intimately understands the questions and concerns that Take Charge America clients often bring, and is always finding new methods of delivering the right answers to those who need them most. All-in-all, she’s motivated by providing accurate, high-quality financial education to our vast consumer community.
Becoming the Director of Education and Training was a natural step in her professional growth with the organization. Before stepping into her current role, Christie served as the Manager of Training and as the Director of Counseling Services.
An educator at heart, Christie spent much of her career as a public school teacher and curriculum specialist before joining Take Charge America. She worked closely with countless students from diverse backgrounds and each with unique learning styles. She knows what teaching tactics work – and how to make complex concepts relatable and understandable. Christie was able to adapt seamlessly to varying teaching circumstances, and brings that same agility and innovation to the team at Take Charge America.
Recognized by colleagues and the greater credit counseling community, Christie is a recipient of the Showcase in Excellence Award with the Arizona Quality Alliance and received the ASTD Citation Excellence in Practice Award from the Financial Credit Counselor Training Program. Christie also currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Rio Salado Community College.
Christie holds a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Kansas, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University.
When she’s not leading the team at Take Charge America or teaching in a classroom, Christie enjoys golfing, biking, hiking and crafts.
