Housing Counselor

TCA is looking for a highly motivated Housing Counselor to join our team!

Essential Functions

  • Gathers and reviews client’s financial information to determine their housing needs
  • Provides Housing Counseling services, to include foreclosure prevention, reverse mortgage, Back to Work and pre-purchase
  • Provides recommendations based on the budget analysis; offers educational information and guidance in the areas of budgeting, self-management of debt, expenses and overall finances
  • Maintains client records by promptly and accurately updating account information in HCO and SOHFI
  • Maintains physical case files according to program and internal requirements
  • Uses reminder system to proactively manage client files; makes outbound calls and send client emails to provide updates and collect missing documents/information
  • Promptly responds to all lender and partner referrals
  • Promptly closes electronic and physical case files in accordance with program and internal requirements
  • Responsible for knowing and complying with applicable Quality Management System (QMS) and HUD process requirements as they apply to the counselor’s area of responsibility
    Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk or a combination of the three for up to 10 hours a day
  • Position requires the ability to speak and hear 100% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of our safety policies
  • Must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisor or management
  • Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance
  • Regular Hours: Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, five days per week, or such other hours per day or hours per week as we determine are necessary or desirable to meet our business needs
  • Overtime: Must be available and willing to work such overtime per week as we determine is necessary or desirable to meet our business needs
  • Weekend and Holiday: Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as we determine are necessary or desirable to meet our business needs
  • On-site Requirement: Must perform duties onsite, except those job duties which are customarily or by their nature performed offsite (such as meetings, deliveries to designated destinations, or training)

Knowledge, Education and Experience

  • Must successfully complete continuing education/up training courses as required
  • Able to meet with clients and conduct Housing Counseling services over the phone or face to face and establish a rapport with clients/potential clients
  • Able to effectively communicate with mortgage loan servicers
  • Must have strong organizational skills, time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Able to collect customer information, analyze customer needs and problem-solve
  • Able to handle stress and/or pressure and demonstrate patience while interacting with coworkers and clients; work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with HCO and SOHFI.  MS Outlook and Word strongly preferred
  • Must be able to type at least 25 words per minute
  • Comprehension of company policies and procedures
  • Conduct that supports the company’s ethics, core values, and compliance programs
  • Must pass NFCC Credit Counseling certification within 90 Days of hire
  • Must pass NFCC Housing Counseling Certification within 90 Days of hire
  • Must pass HUD Housing Counseling License Testing requirements within 180 Days of hire
  • Must pass HUD HECM Reverse Mortgage License testing Requirements within 150 days of hire
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Real Estate or Mortgage industry experience preferred
  • Previous Housing counseling experience strongly preferred
  • Reverse mortgage counseling experience preferred
  • Valid AZ driver’s license and current vehicle insurance required
  • Must be willing to put any Loan officer or Realtor licenses in an inactive status with State banking and or State Real Estate departments
