Michael Hall is the founder and chairman of the board of directors for Take Charge America (TCA). Hall established the non-profit organization in 1987, and under his leadership, it has grown into one of the country’s largest and most respected credit counseling and debt management agencies. Hall previously served as the chief executive officer for more than 20 years before retiring in 2008. In his current role, Hall serves as an industry expert and is a contributor to legislative decisions regarding the credit counseling industry.
Hall has worked in the credit counseling industry for more than 40 years. During this time, he organized and developed several successful business enterprises, including TCA. He envisioned an organization that could provide remedial financial solutions while also providing proactive educational programs to increase financial literacy. Today, TCA offers credit counseling, debt management services and educational programs. It has helped more than 1.5 million consumers nationwide manage their finances and repay more than $3 billion in personal debts, returning these at-risk dollars to fuel the national economy.
Hall is dedicated to uniting the credit counseling industry in its efforts to embrace ethical standards and practices with an emphasis on consumer needs and protection. He is also sensitive to the importance of guiding policies that are fair and sensible for all consumers and credit counseling agencies. As a result of Hall’s efforts, TCA is the only organization of its kind to receive the Better Business Bureau Ethics Award in recognition of its business ethics and integrity in the marketplace.
Hall also serves as an advisory board member of the America Association of Debt Management Organizations, and is a founding member of the Take Charge America Institute for Consumer Financial Education and Research, established at the University of Arizona. The Institute develops research-based financial literacy programs and provides annual teacher training to deliver financial literacy education to hundreds of thousands of students across the United States each year.
